Enos Johnson
Born 1885

Personal Information
I have uncovered a WW1 document for Enos stating he was born in November 1885, Wellington Shropshire. We do know that he died in 1937 and the GRO index also indicates that he was born in 1885/1886. On the Pension record it indicates that he was previously married to a Sarah Ellen ? but address for Sarah is unknown at time of document. Enos signed up for WW1 service at Sutton in Ashfield Sept. 1914.

According to Uncle Des Enos met Kate at a pub she worked at in Mansfield, The Trumpet Pub? not sure about the name bcause I can find no more information on that pub. However, I have found records for a Kate Shaw living in Sutton-in-Ashfield on Club Street. At the end of Club Street was a bar called Old Trooper Inn (Manfield Ales), could this be the same pub? Trumpet does sound a bit like Trooper...

I have done extensive searches for a marriage between Kate and Enos but cannot find anything, I wonder whether this is because Enos was already married to Sarah Ellen, any further marriages would have been bigamous.

Enos died in 1937 (when Desmond was 18 months old), he is buried at St Peters Church of England, Church Hill Cannock; he worked as a coalminer (hewer). Enos is buried in an unmarked grave with two other people, Mary & Matthew Tonks. At time of writing this we believe Mary to be Enos' mum and that she had him from either a previous marriage or out of wedlock. Mary married a Matthew Tonks in 1887, 2 years after Enos was born. The Matthew she was maaried to does not seem to be the Matthew she is buried with as the ages are somewhat different. This is what I am currently researching.

Birth certificate ordered. GRO index of deaths indicates he was 51 when he died which ties in with everything else we have on him.
